Center for Arthropod Management Technologies (2018)

CAMTech, a National Science Foundation and industry funded research center, functions to bridge the gap between industry needs, federal and academic research for arthropod and nematode management. Operating through multiple university nodes located at Iowa State University, the University of Florida and the University of Kentucky and in its 6th year of operation, CAMTech currently partners with 11 companies to accomplish its mission.

The negative economic impact of arthropod-mediated damage and disease is second only to losses as a result of natural disasters. The development of new pest management approaches is critical for the production of sufficient food for increasing human population, and for prevention of arthropod-transmitted disease to plants and humans.

CAMTech serves as a platform for innovative, interdisciplinary research at the interface of academia, government, and industry. The Center addresses the need for specific knowledge and research tools to expedite delivery of pest management solutions by industry partners to the marketplace, and to investigate both new approaches, and expansion of existing approaches for pest suppression.

CAMTech contributes key advances through state of the art, industrially relevant research and by training of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers including underrepresented groups, toward continued advancement of the field. Research areas include RNA interference, methods, genomics, novel target sites, and insect resistance.
